Merkel insists on a quick Corona summit

The Robert Koch Institute reported over 50,000 new infections in the morning for the first time. Chancellor Merkel worries about the current corona development. She is therefore calling for a new round between the federal and state governments as soon as possible in order to coordinate a uniform line.

At the meeting of the Union parliamentary group, Chancellor Angela Merkel renewed her call for a rapid federal-state round – and the faster the better. “There has to be a prime ministerial conference as soon as possible,” she said after ntv information. In the fight against the pandemic, booster vaccinations should now be at the top of the list. Israel got the fourth wave under control with boosters. She also said: “2G will be an important part of the Corona crisis policy in the next few weeks.”

At the same time, Merkel was amazed at how many are now surprised in view of the current Corona situation. According to ntv information, she was also concerned that there could be new social divisions because planned operations would be postponed because of the treatment of unvaccinated people.

Meanwhile, Lower Saxony does not refuse to hold another Corona summit, if the situation requires it and something really needs to be decided, as ntv learned from government circles. At the same time, it was emphasized that it would help more if vaccine was delivered to countries more quickly. Pharmacies would now have to wait two weeks for their orders.

According to ntv information, it is also said that Lower Saxony was against closing the vaccination centers. However, the Federal Ministry of Health insisted on this. In addition, the state is already gradually introducing 2G regulations, although the incidence (today: 105.5) is still comparatively low. The hospitalization rate is also moderate, but will increase because Lower Saxony will accept patients from other countries.

There are similar signals from government circles in Rhineland-Palatinate. There it says, according to ntv information, that a federal-state conference will not be closed if the need is too great. You can see how the situation is worsening, especially in Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia. At the same time, it was emphasized that the federal states had only decided three weeks ago at the Prime Minister’s Conference in autumn which protective measures would also be necessary after the end of the epidemic situation. These have also been included in the draft law of the traffic light groups.

The draft by the SPD, Greens and FDP will go to the Bundestag today, the hearing next week and will be in the Bundesrat on November 19. If there is a need for further action afterwards, Rhineland-Palatinate will not ignore it, government circles continue to say. In addition, many countries such as Rhineland-Palatinate and Lower Saxony currently have their warning and action plans adjusted.

Government spokesman Steffen Seibert had previously stated that Chancellor Merkel was in close contact with the government, with the countries and possible future coalition parties in order to arrange the fastest possible date for a corona summit. “The virus takes no account of political processes or transition periods,” said Seibert. Everyone felt the same responsibility to avert harm to the population – “whether in the old or in the new federal government”.

Merkel has repeatedly made it clear that she will be ready for a prime ministerial conference. So far, however, there has been no uniform line between the countries. The Chancellor is concerned about the rapid development, especially in some regions, said Seibert. It shows that this depends on the vaccination rate. To be clarified in a federal-state round, among other things, a joint effort to achieve more speed with booster vaccinations. From Merkel’s point of view, there is also no nationwide agreed threshold, from which clinic occupancy with corona patients additional measures would have to be taken.
