The Met Gala is coming up in May. Will Karl Lagerfeld’s cat Choupette be there? Apparently she received an invitation.

The cat of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019), who died in 2019, Choupette, has apparently been invited to the Met Gala. The New York Post reports. “She got the invitation,” said her agent Lucas Berullier to the newspaper. “It’s an event honoring Karl’s legacy and Choupette is obviously a central part of that legacy,” added Berullier.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala, taking place May 1 in New York, is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.” This is to celebrate the legendary German fashion designer, who has worked for Chanel, Fendi and Balmain, among others.

That’s how Choupette came to Karl Lagerfeld

Choupette was born in August 2011 and was originally owned by French model Baptiste Giabiconi (33), as reported by the “New York Times”. A little later, Giabiconi asked Lagerfeld to take care of the cat. The designer is said to have been quickly fascinated by the pet. “I realized that Choupette made Karl very happy,” Giabiconi told the newspaper. So he decided to leave the kitten with him. Choupette went on to become a social media and advertising star. She accompanied Lagerfeld in a custom $3,000 Louis Vuitton handbag.

The fashion event of the year

The Met Gala in New York is considered the fashion event of the year. Anna Wintour (73), editor-in-chief of the US fashion magazine “Vogue”, has been the host of the gala for more than two decades. In 2023, actress Michaela Coel (35), singer Dua Lipa (27), Oscar winner Penélope Cruz (48) and former tennis star Roger Federer (41) will be her co-hosts. So did the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art shared on Instagramwhich will benefit from the proceeds of the annual charity gala.
