With a new update, Meta tries to find solutions to bring people into its still very empty metaverse.

Inspired by the good old MMOs, Horizon Worlds now includes quests to complete to receive rewards.

Meta in search of ideas for its metaverse

Even though its precious metaverse costs Meta a fortune without really presenting convincing results, that does not prevent Mark Zuckerberg’s company from trying to make it more attractive.

While waiting for a visually more enticing world, at least the few visitors to Meta’s virtual universe will now have something to do there. With the v102 update, Horizon Worlds indeed welcomes quests (idea oh so original, you will agree).

Thus, certain activities will offer challenges to be completed in order to receive rewards, mainly in the area of cosmetics for their avatar. To present this “new” functionality, Meta took an interest in the activity Giant Mini Paddle Golfas shown in the image above.

Massively Online Metavers?

Meta’s wishful thinking with the addition of quests is to make Horizon Worlds more engaging and motivating users to return to its metaverse regularly. Until now, this very empty virtual world has indeed had great difficulty in retaining the crowds.

For now, quests are only available to users participating in the test phase. However, they will roll out to a wider audience and to more worlds and activities over time. Knowing that Meta would have about twenty new experiences in the pipeline, which could in turn accommodate quests to attract customers (hoping that this does not give bad ideas to big brands wishing to set foot in Horizon Worlds).

The v102 update also brings some fixes to make the virtual universe globally more stable. In any case, more stable for the few dozen people who still put on their Quest headphones to visit this metaverse whose interest is questionable to say the least.
