In order to prepare the ground for its metaverseMeta Quest finally puts an end to the need to have a Facebook account… for a Meta account.
By August 2022, anyone with a VR headset such as the Quest 2 will therefore no longer need to have a Facebook account to connect. This will be transformed into a Meta account and associated with a Horizon profile dedicated to the metaverse imagined by Mark Zuckerberg’s company.
Mandatory Facebook account meta-stasis
With this new Meta account, the American giant indicates that it wants to offer more flexibility to users as to how they will exist in the famous metaverse to come. This involves connecting via an email address and checking the privacy of your account (your choice: open to everyone, only to friends and family, or private). Accounts of children 13-17 will be automatically private.
In reality, the difference between the obligation to have a Facebook account and a Meta account seems above all to be based on a semantic level. It will indeed always be possible to link his Meta account to his Facebook and Instagram accounts, if necessary.
In association with this new form of account, the Oculus profile becomes a Horizon profile. It will be a customizable avatar, with a nickname and information to be detailed according to everyone’s discretion. As you will have understood, this avatar will be used to represent you in the metaverse of Meta Quest.
The American giant’s building is therefore gradually taking shape and should welcome a good number of visitors, given the impressive success of the Quest 2 and the full expansion of the VR headset market in general.
