After a year 2022 to mark with a black stone, Meta placed 2023 under the sign of “efficiency”, which requires a good austerity cure. After announcing last November its intention to lay off 11,000 employees, or 13% of its workforce, the American group is planning a new wave of layoffs that could affect several thousand employees, according to Bloomberg. Job cuts that could start this week.
This new cut in Meta’s workforce is part of Mark Zuckerberg’s strategy to reduce the company’s costs, and thus make it “a stronger and more agile organization”. In this way, the boss of the Menlo Park firm hopes to reverse the trend after a year 2022 notably marked by declining annual revenues for the first time since its IPO in 2012.
In this context, Meta has revised its investments downwards for the current year and proclaimed artificial intelligence a priority for the group, ahead of a particularly cash-hungry metaverse. Thanks to such an approach, Meta hopes to relaunch its growth and regain the confidence of its investors.
