Meta Quest 3: a leak reveals how the new Guardian works!

If you regularly follow the section VR/AR of the site, you surely know SamuliaTHE data miner preferred by owners of Meta Quest. Well, the latter has not finished making people talk about him since he would have recently unearthed tutorial videos explaining how the new Smart Guardian on Meta Quest 3.

It’s in the beta version of the latest update of the V55 that the data miner would have unearthed said videos (which were deleted and then re-shared by others):

The pictures speak for themselves, a character moves through a living room, while the Meta Quest 3 scans and maps the room. Besides, an indicator shows when the scan is complete. In another video, a warning appears when the avatar approaches physical objectsthen in the last, a bit of mixed reality with a ball bouncing off auto-scanned physics objects.

A Guardian smart would identify the environment without the player having to do it manually. If this may seem trivial for the delimitation of our space, AI could automatically identify furniturebringing mixed reality its true game changer. RM games would then take advantage of the data collected to generate situations and interactions with the player that are much more advanced than in the past.especially since the Meta Quest 3featuring a depth sensor, should be incredibly accurate in the field.

Meta did not communicate on it, but as a reminder, here is what the company had said when the product was announced:

On Quest 3, our best-in-class Meta Reality technology allows you to seamlessly blend your physical world with the virtual world. These new experiences go beyond today’s mixed reality by understanding and intelligently responding to objects in your physical space, while allowing you to navigate that space in natural and intuitive ways that were virtually impossible before. .

During an internal meeting, Mark Rabkin (vice president of Meta AR) would have said:

The team’s main goal is to create an easy, comfortable and natural experience just by putting the headset on. You can walk effortlessly through your home knowing you can see perfectly well. You can place anchors and objects on your desktop. You can have your coffee. So you can stay inside much longer.

Comfort, the non-obligation to remove the helmet or put on pass-through to monitor if all is well is likely to please some, especially large families. However, let’s hope that the user will always have the possibility of delimiting his space manually.and that the Smart Guardian don’t forbid him this or that application if his space seems inferior to the needs of the experiment, which would be the worst thing to do.
