Brad Lynch, YouTuber became famous thanks to his analyzes hardware and his VR leaks, tells us what the Meta Quest 3 through a video.
Stinsonits code namewould therefore be the next consumer helmet of the brand, coming to position itself between the Meta Quest 2 and the Meta Quest Pro. The information distilled by the YouTuber are to be taken with a grain of salt, this may only be a first draft of this helmet still in developmentbut it is true that its leaked are very often close to reality.
According to the three-dimensional representations, the helmet would adopt the form-factor new generation helmets with a reduced size of the frontal block enabled through the use of so called lenses Pancakes. Level look, we find neither more nor less than a Meta Quest with its much maligned strap and in consequence a battery still and always placed in front. It’s a shame, even if this news should delight the props. However, do not necessarily intend to use the Bobo VR or other, because Meta seems to have made the choice to integrate a Jack socket (absent from the PICO 4) and a USB-C on either side of the branches. These would havea new type of loudspeakerwith two grids this time, one above and one below.
We would find on the front a shield having, also close to the appearance of a Meta Questbut presenting everything as on the Meta Quest Pro, two cameras for one pass-through colorful, as well as a depth sensor which should help with mixed reality experiences for layering virtual elements and finer modeling of our environment. On the sides, we would find two standard cameras fisheye, as well as a power button. On the underside of the helmet are visible buttons for the volume, magnetic ports reminiscent of those used on the Quest Pro charging station and a dial to adjust theIPD more easily and finely than with the three unique settings of the Quest 2.
Regarding the interior view of the helmet, we would find a proximity sensor, but also two large type lenses Pancakes behind which would be placed two LCD screensbut surprisingly, the Meta Quest 3 would not be equipped like the Quest Pro or the PICO 4 with the technologies ofeye tracking nor of face tracking. The reason is certainly very simple and can be found in the production costs of this mature technology, which is still too expensive to produce and integrate. We will probably have to wait a few more years to see all this land on consumer helmets. On this side, the PSVR 2 offers itself a place of choice by implementing this technology in its games for a gameplay and even deeper interactions. It also uses dynamic foveal rendering with eye tracking to relieve the PS5 of too much processing by rendering, in high resolution, only what the user is really looking at.
May those who dreamed of a little extra power be reassured. The Meta Qest 3 should integrate the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2-Gen2 responding to the sweet name of Project Hallidaywhat we used to call the XR3. This new graphics chip should, again according to Brad Lynch, allow 30% performance improvements over XR2-Gen 1 fitted to current helmets. the YouTuber wishes to point out, however, that the Quest 3contrary to Quest Pro, would only be equipped with a single fan to cool itwhich we fear will limit the power of its new graphics chip.
We have no details on a release date for the moment, but it is certain that this model, still in development, is not expected before the end of 2023 or even the beginning of 2024.
