Meta Quest Pro and Quest 2: Hand Tracking 2.1 clearly explained in video

Remember, version 2.0 of the Hand Tracking arrived last May on our Meta Quest 2 then recently on the Meta Quest 1. Although perfectible, we felt a slight improvement in said technology, and even if the feedback from the developers is generally encouraging, we are still a long way from the comfort brought by joysticksand it is not the haptics of Touch Pro which could change the situation!

About this famous version 2.1, Meta said :

Our researchers and engineers have developed a new deep learning method to better understand the poses of the hand when the device’s cameras cannot see it or when it is moving quickly. It is therefore a question here of improving the continuity of follow-up by stage.

Version 2.1 should drastically reduce tracking loss on your hands. Meta promises us that if there is loss, the respawn time of your hands will be instantaneous. As Meta announced above, the prediction will be globally finer and the reliability of the pinch gesture will be much greater.

To be clear, the Hand Tracking 2.1 will be from our point of view a minor evolution. It will take years or another hardware for hand tracking to be as good as with controllers. Let’s not forget also that the hand-tracking is a great way to discover the VR for those who are not well versed in the video game world and for whom controllers are synonymous with puzzles. In other words, hand tracking could help democratize virtual reality.

Function Hand Tracking 2.1 will be available for Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro later this year in a software update. While waiting to be able to enjoy it and if you still want to buy the Meta Quest 2know that you can always afford it at the Fnac, Darty or Amazon for €449.99. You can also find good PCs for gamers on the site.
