Meta Quest V49: three additional new features announced in the next update

We already told you about the v49 through a dedicated article, but new features added this week. On the program, new options for parents who will be able to better supervise the activity of their children, a welcome update for environments Meta and theintegration of an “immersive” option in the “Do Not Disturb” function.

  • New environment & new locations:

Since the launch of Oculus Quest, Meta sparingly distilled usable environments in the Home of the helmet. Indeed, after two years, there are only about fifteen available to date. Fortunately, DIYers know how to install, or even create, using tape (see our tutorial here) but it seems that Meta please spend the second and thus offer new ones monthly. Last month was the snowy landscape of ” Polar Village » and this month, it’s a more abstract space aptly named ” Abstraction » which made its appearance (the one used in the thumbnail above). Supposed to arrive with the V49, however, it is already available to many of us. Another ad in the same subject, Meta plans to give more freedom by offering more anchor points for our avatars. It has even been announced that we should be able to sit virtually on the ottomans and sofas of the set. This should therefore be possible on future environments, but old ones should be updated accordingly. Of course, it is to be hoped that the different placements are well thought out to avoid seeing behind the scenes, which most often remain “tinkered with” as we have shown several times, such as in this video.

Meta wishes to pour into pedagogy with its new websitewhich will be used to configure and manage the Meta Quest parental supervision tools. It will thus be possible, without going through the helmet itself or the smartphone application, to block the launch of applications according to PEGI (3, 7, 12, 16 or 18+), to prevent connection to a PC (Link and Air link), block developer mode or cut social connections (Horizon Worlds, Facebook, Messengeretc). On the practical side, the person whose account will be moderated (your teenager, for example) will have to request it via an invitation that you will accept. This is a very good thing because it implies that the “surveillance” is done in full transparency and with consent.

  • “Do not disturb” option

The “do not disturb” function, i.e. the snoozing of notifications – whether they come from the headset or the smartphone – was available via the eponymous settings menu or via a pictogram in the quick menu. To date, this possibility was in “all or nothing” mode and had to be activated manually. From V49, a new option will appear, called “Immersive Experiences”, which, if checked, will automatically block messages as soon as a game or application is launched in VR. This therefore does not concern what runs in 2D (browser and other Android app). Simple and practical.

As usual, if you are in v49 and you don’t have all of these features, it’s quite normal given the way Meta proceeds to update our VR headsets. Moreover, if you are curious to know more about this point, we invite you to read this article.

If Meta Quest 2 interests you, know that you can afford it at the Fnac, Darty or Amazon for €449.99.
