The social media giant seeks to improve interoperability between Facebookand its latest platform, Threads.

After a fanfare start, the Threads platform, which Meta had designed as an x/Twitter-killer, did not experience the growth that the group expected. But the project is still far from being shelved, with the Californian giant looking for new ways to attract the public to it. And what better way to do this than to link the activity of Mark Zuckerberg’s latest baby with his historical network?

A merger between Threads and Facebook

Could Threads one day benefit from Facebook’s audience? That’s Meta’s persistent idea anyway. After stopping the automatic sharing of Threads suggestions on Facebook and Instagram last November, the group is trying something else, and is currently testing the possibility of voluntarily posting the same post on Threads and Facebook.

This kind of interoperability is not new. It has long been possible to share the same image or the same Reel on Facebook and Instagram, in order to reach a wider audience. Meta seems to be trying to reproduce the same positive synergy, this time for sharing textual content.

Europe not concerned

Currently, only a limited number of users can share their posts on both platforms. Meta also indicated to the media TechCrunch that this trial was currently only being carried out on iOS, and that the European zone was not currently affected by the initiative.

It remains to be seen whether giving the user control over whether or not to share a Facebook post on Threads will ultimately bring Facebook’s audience to that platform. A question to which we should know the answer in the event of a wider deployment of the function.
