Meta: The vice president of Meta’s Metaverse declares that Horizon Worlds is too buggy and far from the announced promises!

In an internal memo September 15 disclosed to The Verge, Vishal Shahvice-president of Meta’s Metaversesaid :

I want a quality lockdown for the rest of the year to make sure we fix our quality shortcomings and performance issues before opening Horizon to more users.

Since launching late last year, we’ve found that the core pitch of Horizon Worlds – a synchronous social network where creators can build engaging worlds – is strong. But currently, feedback from our creators, users, playtesters, and many of us on the team is all about stability issues and bugs, making it difficult for our community to experience the magic of Horizon. Simply put, for an experience to become awesome and addictive, it must first be playable and well-designed.

For many of us, we don’t spend a lot of time in Horizon and our dashboards show that pretty clearly. […] Why that ? Why don’t we like the product we built? The truth is quite simple: if we don’t like it, how can we expect our users to like it?

In a second memo sent two weeks later, also leaked to The Verge, Shah said he plans to require managers to have their teams use Horizon Worlds at least once a week:

Everyone in this organization should make it their mission to fall in love with Horizon Worlds. You can’t do that without using it. Go for it. Organize moments to do it with your colleagues or friends, in the internal builds but also in the public build in order to be able to interact with the community.

When your manager forces you to “force” worship his project, it’s never a good sign. This translates into employees ofHorizon Worlds not an intrinsic will, which holds you close to your body, but simply the idea of ​​working for… working. This statement is certainly the most important of the revelations made so far for Horizon Worlds, the one that makes us understand why the title is as ugly as it is empty: no one believes it!

The same VP pointed to problems with the platform, including that “the first experience would be confusing and frustrating”, saying that Meta se must to “introduce new users to world-class worlds that will make their first visit a success.”

Shah also admitted what many suspected: Horizon Worlds “hasn’t found a business model yet.” He also pushed the staff to get out of their comfort zones and think outside the box to offer much more originality. Shah wants his product to be used on a constant basis and not on an ad hoc basisthus joining the idea of ​​the metaverse according to Mark Zuckerberg: a virtual world, a second life with possibilities so immense that the experience becomes as addictive as possible.

Still, the current quality contrasts sharply with the many major features recently announced by mark zuckerbergnotably a mobile version and a web version supposed to launch later this year (which is a failure in itself since VR should initially be the only gateway). Any update ofHorizon Worlds will likely be revealed on Tuesday during Meta Connect, the company’s annual virtual reality conference.
