According to the Wall Street Journal, Meta could (re)launch Threads in Europe in the coming days.
Last July, Meta took advantage of X (Twitter) in great difficulty to launch, perhaps too hastily, its Threads network. At this end of a year that is, to say the least, turbulent (again) for Elon Musk and his network, Meta could once again take advantage of the opportunity to (re)launch its network in Europe, and thus quickly garner millions of users.
Threads, why is it stuck in Europe
Remember, at the beginning of the summer, Meta deployed Threads, its new social network largely inspired by Twitter. A thunderous launch for the network then very dependent on another platform signed Meta, namely Instagram, with more than 100 million users in a few days.
However, due to European Union data protection rules, Meta was never officially launched in Europe, although some users were able to install the application via an SDK file. Meta quickly blocked the application on the old Continent.
The return of Threads in a few days?
However, it appears that Meta is now ready to launch the app in Europe, which would give the app its biggest market expansion since its launch. It is estimated that the network could gain 40 million users in Europe upon launch.
A new launch which would come even as Elon Musk’s X network is going through yet another bad patch, with many users fleeing the platform (to fly to Bluesky in particular), without forgetting various advertisers who are also slamming the network gate.
In all likelihood, Meta should allow European users to use the Threads social network solely for consultation purposes, without having to necessarily create a profile. Of course, those who wish can create an account and publish messages.
When it was launched, Threads was very (too) dependent on Instagram and Facebook, but for several weeks now, the network has tended to dissociate itself from its peers. And you, are you going to migrate to Threads?
