Without knowing why, Intel has largely revised its plans for the release of processors.

After Alder Lake in the fall of 2021 and Raptor Lake the following year, Intel’s roadmap seemed rather clear: Meteor Lake was to follow this year and Arrow Lake in 2024. Well that was before…

Meteor Lake reserved for H, P and U models

… before several rumors point to a noticeable change in Intel’s vision for the release of Meteor Lake. According to the latest news, there is no longer any question of offering Meteor Lake-S CPUs, the versions intended for desktop machines.

The Meteor Lake generation would then be more oriented towards the mobile world, with low-power processors. For the desktop universe, only a few references would be kept and there would be no question, for example, of finding the most muscular, most energy-consuming models.

Three series thus seem to be retained by Intel, which would release the Meteor Lake-H during the fourth quarter of 2023, while the Meteor Lake-P and Meteor Lake-U series would arrive a little later.

Refresh Raptor Lake and Sapphire Rapids

Unsurprisingly, Intel hasn’t confirmed anything like this and is content to remind you that Meteor Lake will arrive before the end of the year. Information confirmed today by Videocardz which cites ECSM, a Chinese media known for its well-informed “hardware” leaks.

ECSM even establishes a fairly precise roadmap for Intel for the end of 2023 and part of 2024. The Meteor Lake-S are canceled there while the Meteor Lake-H are set for the end of year 2023. To compensate for this lack of “S” models, Intel would therefore have planned Raptor Lake refreshes with a two-stage release: the “K” models from October 2023 and the other models in November/December.

At the beginning of 2024, the Sapphire Rapids range (Xeon W2500/W3500) would in turn be entitled to a refresh and ECSM ended “its” roadmap with a quick comment on the future: the Arrow Lake-S range would arrive at the end of year 2024 or beginning of year 2025.
