Laure, a 37-year-old mother, came to the emergency room with one problem and left with another.
The story was made by Régine, Laure’s mother, who spoke to the Republican Lorrain to tell what happened to this 37-year-old mother. It all started in the middle of the night, on Sunday February 5, when Laure, from Boulange, “suffered from liver problems and did not feel well”. She was therefore taken to the emergency room of the Maillot de Briey hospital (Meurthe-et-Moselle), where the nursing staff gave him a glass of water with a tablet to take. Only as soon as she took a sip of the liquid in her glass, Laure knew something was wrong. For her, it was not water but acid that had just been served to himproof of which were his tongue and lips burned.
At the hospital, we persist in saying that it is a simple glass of water. “No one believed her or even listened“explained his mother to the Lorraine Republican. Faced with her pain, the caregivers think that Laure is having a reaction and therefore give her an antihistamine before sending her home a few hours later. But once home, the mother still suffers. Rebelote, she is again brought to the emergency room where examinations show that she has strong stomach and esophageal burns. On the spot, the hypothesis is put forward that it was indeed not water that was in his glass, but washing-up liquid based on soda. “Hospital report says it was ‘industrial dish soap’“explained the mother of the victim to our colleagues.
An investigation is underway
Not surprisingly, Laure went to the police station on February 6 to file a complaint against the hospital. As her mother pointed out, “the reaction and the lack of listening are unacceptable“. She also deplores the fact that the contents of the glass were simply not analyzed. Faced with the patient’s complaint, the Maillot de Briey hospital acknowledged “a dysfunction in the care” while certifying that Laura “was quickly taken care of” and “all care is and will be given to him“. A thorough investigation is underway.
