MG Cyberster: the electric roadster is unofficially unveiled!

While the Cyberster electric roadster from Chinese manufacturer MG is not supposed to be officially presented until the second half of this year, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information (MIIT) has leaked photos and some technical characteristics. days before it is unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show.

Exterior lines

It is therefore without camouflage that the Cyberster can be seen. We can note an elegant line that mixes curves of the sixties and taut lines to accentuate the dynamism. The soft top is in canvas and the almond-shaped lights dip along the ribbed bonnet on a sporty front face adorned with air inlets, with a grille featuring a honeycomb pattern. There are two discreet fins on the rear part, door sills and a diffuser with a sporty look.

At the rear, the Cyberster has a light strip that runs along the stern and the LED lights are in the shape of an arrow. The name Cyberster is written in full, but it is not certain that this denomination reaches Europe.

Despite a wheelbase of 2.69m, the MG Cyberster remains a strictly two-seater roadster. These dimensions could contribute to its stability since the wheels are rejected at the four corners with very short overhangs, in particular at the rear. As for the wheels, it seems that the dimensions will be 245/45 R19 at the front and 275/40 R19 at the rear as standard. As an option, they will be 245/40 R20 at the front and 275/35 R20 at the rear.

Engines

Although very low with 1.32 m high, the Cyberster displays generous dimensions with 4.53 m long and 1.91 m wide. Electric car obliges, the weight is high with a mass varying from 1850 to 1985 kg empty according to the versions.

We don’t have the capacity of the battery(ies) available yet, but it appears the Cyberster will be equipped with an NMC battery manufactured by United Auto Battery System (UABS), a joint venture between SAIC and CATL. The entry-level model of the roadster is equipped with an electric motor with a power of 314 horsepower positioned on the rear axle.

The all-wheel-drive version will feature and two electric motors. The first would deliver a power of 204 horsepower and the second 340 hp. However, the powers do not add up, there is little chance that the total power is 544 hp. In any case, if the Cyberster offers the 450 hp of the future MG4 X-Power, it will already be very interesting on paper. Small flat, the speed seems limited to 200 km / h.

Price and availability

For the moment, no price has been announced. The MG Cyberster electric roadster will in principle be officially unveiled this year for marketing from 2024. In the meantime, MG will offer a sports version of its MG4 called MG4 X-Power this summer. On the program, two motors (one on each axle), 450 hp of power, more than 600 Nm of torque and a 0 to 100 km / h shot in less than 4 s. Something to help us take our troubles patiently!
