MH Rise Sunbreak: Cannonlance, Bow, Charge Ax & Spear make their comeback

Introducing videos for the new weapon abilities in Monster Hunter Rise’s Sunbreak expansion have been released in bulk over the past few days. It makes you wonder if the studio did not have to hurry to release them, because the full of announcements is coming in the days and weeks to come. After the Longsword that made people howl about favoritism, here are the missing weapons.

Gunlance: Bullet Barrage

The new Almudron set and its weapons make it possible to play with the appearance of a Gundam, which is always a popular choice. The new silk link attack expands the already existing forward throw ability. In addition to the explosive sprint to quickly close in on the target, a powerful attack is unleashed afterwards.

Bow: Butcher’s Bond

The new Silk Link attack fires an arrow charged with Iron Silk. If a second arrow hits the same spot, it deals slashing damage. As the video clearly shows, this can be used to sever the tails of monsters. Without being extraordinary, it adds a handy tool to the archers arsenal. It remains to be seen if the damage is high enough for this attack to be regularly integrated into the DPS cycle on monsters that are more vulnerable to slashing attacks than piercing.

Charge Axe: Ready Stance

Master rank versions of the Magnamalo armor make their debut with this video. The silk tie attack technique is the ready stance. A kind of counter-attack with the sword and the axe. But it pales in comparison to the longsword version.

Spear: Rising Thrust

Considered the unloved weapon at present, the spear only has a very limited DPS, without having the defensive capabilities of the counterattack of the longsword for example. Blocking halfway effectively requires a lot of specific skills, and the result is far from worth it. The new silk link attack, the Rising Thrust, allows you to launch yourself in the air and hit the monster vertically while falling back to the ground with a piercing blow. Hopefully the damage of this attack will be very high, and the other abilities of the spear will see their damage increased as well.

Action common to all weapons: Substitute talent transfer

As we remind each time, a new action is available with all weapons, the one that allows you to quickly change substitution talents. The latter, introduced with MHR, allow you to choose between different abilities for each weapon, which can greatly alter its gameplay. It can be a matter of personal preference, or which substitute talent is best suited for the monster you’re going to face. There are a few talents that are strictly superior to the others, but they are far from being the majority.

With the addition of new Substitution talents to Sunbreak, as well as more difficult hunts that will involve several different monsters in some cases, it would be frustrating to be limited to just a few talents. It will now be possible to create 2 personalized lists of talents, and to switch from one to the other with a simple keystroke in combat. This will allow you to adapt to the situation, and even create even crazier combos in the hands of an expert hunter.
