The planned biopic “Michael” will provide an insight into the life of the “King of Pop” Michael Jackson. It has now been revealed who will play the living legend Diana Ross.

The late musician Michael Jackson was one of the biggest stars of the 20th century and led a turbulent life. So it’s no wonder that his unique story as the legendary “King of Pop” has a lot to offer and is set to be filmed in a planned biopic in 2025.
It will provide a detailed presentation of Michael Jackson’s work and bring his most famous performances to life. Not only the artistic process from the former member of the Jackson 5 to the solo artist will be covered, but also the media-heavy private life of the versatile entertainer.
In addition to the pop icon, the focus is on other well-known personalities, such as the living legend Diana Ross! According to the US industry publication Variety, Kat Graham will take on the role of the music diva, who was an important support person for Michael. Most viewers already know the actress as the witch Bonnie Bennett from the series “Vampire Diaries”.
In an Instagram post, the actress announced her involvement in “Michael” and thanked the producers and director:
“I’m grateful to play the legendary Diana Ross…directed by the great Antoine Fuqua. I can’t wait for everyone to see this film and the brilliant performances in it. Thank you to Graham King, Vickie Thomas and Mr. Fuqua, for granting me the privilege of supporting the retelling of such a pivotal era in our musical history.”

Starring as Michael Jackson will be his own nephew Jaafar Jackson, who is the son of Jermaine Jackson. Michael’s parents Joe and Katherine Jackson are played by Colman Domingo (“The Color Purple”, “Euphoria”) and Nia Long. Miles Teller (“Top Gun” series), Laura Harrier, Joseph David-Jones and Larenz Tate will also be seen in supporting roles.
The planned biopic will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who is already known for the “The Equalizer” series with Denzel Washington and has had some success with documentaries such as “American Dream/American Knightmare”, “What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali” and Hulu documentary series “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers”. The biographical drama is produced by Graham King (“The Aviator”, “Hugo”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “The Departed”), among others.
“Michael” is scheduled to be released in the USA on April 18, 2025. As usual, the musical film adaptation could start in German cinemas a day earlier, on April 17, 2025.
