Michael Mittermeier has a new job: The stand-up comedian is founding a comedy club in Munich. First shows start in September.

The German comedian Michael Mittermeier, 57, is breaking new ground and opening his own comedy stage in the Bavarian capital of Munich. According to a corresponding statement, the first shows are to take place in the “Lucky Punch Comedy Club” as part of a soft opening from September 21st. The premises are located in the Munich cultural center Gasteig in the former Carl Amery Hall. Mittermeier has already informed his fans about his new plans on a specially founded Instagram page.

“Big surprise, big news,” announces the comedian and gives a first glimpse of the location, for which, according to him, some renovation work is still pending. He himself will definitely be there at the start and in the first few days. The grand opening will then take place on October 12th with “illustrious surprise guests”. In a further statement, Mittermeier explains his reasons for founding the company: “Munich now has a lively comedy scene. Young artists can try out many open mics, test their material and develop their first full-length programs.”

Michael Mittermeier also wants to be on the stage of his club himself

He himself often uses such evenings to try out new numbers before TV shows. With “Lucky Punch Comedy Club” he wants to give something back and offer the next generation an additional stage to prove themselves. The hall offers space for 130 visitors and mixed shows by experienced comedians, solo shows, open mic evenings and English-language events are planned. In addition, the Berlin club “Comedyflash” will put together a weekly program.

According to Mittermeier, the aim is to offer the audience a wide variety of evenings and programs up to five times a week. “I’ll definitely show up and be on stage one or the other time,” explains the German stand-up comedy pioneer.

Michael Mittermeier became known throughout Germany in the mid-1990s primarily for his stage program “Zapped”. He is considered one of the first German comedians to present the US style of stand-up comedy shows on local stages. That’s why Mittermeier is still considered a pioneer for many modern comedians.
