dho. On June 23, Franz Fischlin will moderate the main edition of the “Tagesschau” for the last time in almost eighteen years. Now his successor is known: the former EU correspondent Michael Rauchenstein.

From August, the 32-year-old will complement the moderation team of the main edition of “Tagesschau” with Andrea Vetsch, Cornelia Boesch and Florian Inhauser. “As an EU correspondent, he has managed to bring complex issues closer to the public in recent years – so we’re looking forward to him returning to Zurich for this important task,” said Gregor Meier, SRF’s head of TV news quoted in a statement on Wednesday.

Rauchenstein has been a TV correspondent in Brussels for two years. Before he became a correspondent, the political journalist worked for SRF as an editor for the foreign and video departments and as an editor for the “Arena”.

Before joining SRF, the native of Schwyz gained his first media experience as an editor and moderator of the youth program “VideoGang”. He later worked as a moderator for Radio Top and for Central Swiss Television. Rauchenstein studied political science and sociology at the University of Lucerne and at the Free University of Berlin.

Fischlin’s successor is already enthusiastic about his new job to his current and future employer: “I consider it one of the most exciting tasks in Swiss journalism. I am really looking forward to this.” According to SRF, his successor as Brussels correspondent is still open.
