Michael Schumacher has not appeared in public since his tragic skiing accident in 2013. His longtime confidante Jean Todt now speaks in a documentary about the former racing driver and gets emotional.

It was a global shock when Michael Schumacher, 53, suffered a serious skiing accident in December 2013. Since then, the former Formula 1 driver has lived in seclusion with his family. In the documentary “La Method” by the French pay-TV channel “Canal+”, his longtime friend, former FIA President and Formula 1 team boss Jean Todt, 76, is accompanied, who still maintains close contact with the Schumachers today .

Jean Todt: “Michael is still present in my life”

His fate touched the world, but very few know how Michael Schumacher is doing almost nine years after his accident. Despite the great public interest in the racing legend’s state of health, family and friends try to protect his privacy. This close circle of confidants also includes Jean Todt, who remembers his time with “Schumi” in the documentary and visits places that he associates with him.

When asked about the 53-year-old and how he learned to live after his accident, Todt was emotional. “Michael is still present in my life and will always be, no matter the situation,” he quotes “Sportbild”. “The question today is how to be well together and how to accompany him and the family.”

Corinna Schumacher appreciates Todt’s friendship

When visiting the Ferrari restaurant “Ristorante Montana”, Todt reminisces with the owners Rosella and Maurizio. The two men often came here to eat. “It was something like their secret bunker because at least 1,500 fans were always waiting outside for Mr. Todt and Michael,” says Maurizio. When Todt promises to deliver greetings from Rosella to his friend, he reveals a small detail about him: “He’s always very observant.”

Tears come to her eyes at the NRW award ceremony

How important Jean Todt is to the Schumacher family to this day becomes clear when Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna Schumacher, 53, talks about the former Ferrari managing director. “Being friends with Michael in the early years was so fun. But when the tide turns and suddenly someone can’t do it like that anymore or needs help or when it’s not just vacation anymore or something sad happens, then that’s it you see who your friend is. And there’s Jean, I have to say quite clearly, one of the few,” she reveals.
