Michael Schumacher: his son, Mick, victim of a terrible accident

Mick, the son of Michael Schumacher, was the victim of a terrible accident this Saturday, March 26. This took place on the Jeddah circuit in Saudi Arabia.

A violent crash. Qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Formula 1 Grand Prix took place this Saturday, March 26 at the Jeddah circuit. For the occasion, Mick Schumacher was present and determined to reach Q1, for one of the first times in his career, but the son of the famous racing driver was victim of a terrible accident. As he was launched at full speed, his car slipped on a curb in a bend approached at very high speed since he was traveling at more than 200 km/h. On the videos, we can see him going to hit the security wall before being returned to the other side of the circuit. His car was completely destroyed in the crash and medical teams quickly intervened. Red flags were immediately waved to signal that the session was suspended. A ambulance arrived at the scene of the accident to transport Mick Schumacher to the medical center of the circuit. “We heard Mick was conscious, exited his vehicle and was being directed to a medical facility“, quickly made known his Haas team, of which he has been a part since 2021. As the Grand Prix takes place this Sunday, he should declare package.

While more specific information regarding Mick Schumacher’s state of health should be data in the next few hours, this accident recalls that of Romain Grosjean. The French driver, who was also part of the Haas team, suffered a similar shock during the Bahrain Grand Prix in November 2020. He had lost control of his car and first hit the rear of Russian Daniil Kvyat’s vehicle before crashing into the guardrails. The images were impressive since his car was split in two and quickly caught fire. He had managed to extricate himself from his vehicle but had nevertheless been seriously injured and kept heavy sequelae on his hands. Scars that he had revealed to his subscribers in an impressive photo last October. “One of the positive points is that we put the little worries of everyday life into perspective much more. We enjoy life twice as much” he had explained in the columns of Télé 7 jours.

Mick Schumacher: has he ever confided in his father?

His passion for the circuit, Mick Schumacher inherits it from his father, Michael Schumacher. In the columns of The Gazzetta dello Sport in April 2021, he had recalled the day he announced to his parents that he wanted to become a racing driver. “I was with my father, I remember it well : we were in Kerpen, on the go-kart track. We were chatting and he asked me if i considered running just a hobby or a serious thing. I was clear: it was serious for me. He and my mother supported me in this choice“, he said. However, being the son of someone famous did not interest the young man, who wanted to make his own way. “Me, I adore my father. I believe he always did everything in the best way. But I’m focused on myself, I’m not looking for a model, just my way“, he concluded.
