“Keep fighting”: Touching father-son photo with Michael

Netflix is devoting a new documentary to the life of Michael Schumacher – and for the first time the racing driver’s family speaks about the serious accident eight years ago.
From September 15, 2021 the documentation about the former Formula 1 superstar Michael Schumacher, 52, will be available on the Netflix streaming service. The film not only picks up on the career path from young, ambitious kart driver to number one in racing, but also offers insights into his private life from 2013. From the year in which his life and that of his family changed forever after a skiing accident .
“Michael has always protected us. And now we protect Michael”
One person in particular provides the emotional insights in the documentary: Michael Schumacher’s wife Corinna, 52. About the consequences of the accident that caused her husband to disappear from public life, she says: “We try to continue this in our family, like Michael that I liked. ” And that is the credo: “Private is private, as he always said. Michael has always protected us. And now we protect Michael.”

And Michael’s children also get emotional in the documentary. Mick Schumacher, 22, who is following in his father’s Formula 1 footsteps, finds it “a little unfair” that he and Gina cannot experience things with their parents like others. “I think that papa and I would understand each other in engine language now, that we would have a lot more to talk about. That would be so cool,” says Mick. “That’s it now – I’d give up everything just for that.” At the start of the documentary, the 22-year-old also shares a touching family photo from happy days, in which he and his father can be seen on vacation. To do this, he uses the hashtag “keepfighting”.

Netflix production remains true to this principle. It also only hints at the current state of the racing legend. “Everyone misses Michael. But Michael is there,” says Corinna. “Different, but he’s there. We live together at home, we give therapy. We do everything so that Michael is better and doing well.”
The qualities that once made him the best Formula 1 driver in the world are still evident today: “He’s simply mentally strong. […] He shows me that every day – how strong he is. “
