Michael Wendler: Kaufland and RTL distance themselves

After Michael Wendler left the jury for "DSDS", both RTL and Kaufland have distanced themselves from the singer.

Michael Wendler (48) caused quite a stir on October 8th. On the one hand, he announced that he would be leaving the jury of the RTL show "Deutschland sucht den Superstar", on the other hand he was spreading wild theories about the corona crisis. The broadcaster and the Kaufland supermarket chain, for which Wendler had just recorded a commercial, distanced themselves from the singer's statements.

"We are completely surprised by the statements made by Michael Wendler", wrote RTL on Twitter. This applies to both the exit of the singer and his conspiracy theories. "We expressly distance ourselves from this."

"Wendler content deleted"

Kaufland also reported to Twitter. "Our video with Michael Wendler was about fun & irony," writes the supermarket chain. However, if "the safety and health of people is played around", the limit has been reached. That is why they have "deleted the entire Wendler content" and distance themselves from the singer's statements.

"I will retire as a juror with immediate effect from participating in the 'DSDS' show," Wendler said in an Instagram story. RTL had "no influence" on his decision. But the reason Wendler gave for his exit was particularly surprising.

He accuses the federal government of having committed "gross and serious violations of the constitution" and the Basic Law in the course of the corona pandemic. Many German TV stations, including RTL, are "synchronized, politically controlled". From now on he can be reached on a new "Telegram" channel. The platform is particularly popular with conspiracy theorists. According to Wendler, other platforms such as Instagram, Youtube and Facebook are allegedly censored.
