While waiting for the release of his “Book of Solutions”, successfully presented at the last Cannes Film Festival, Michel Gondry could shoot his next film shortly: a biopic on the youth of Pharell Williams.
The love story between Michel Gondry and music is therefore not about to stop. But could it be otherwise with a grandfather to whom we owe the invention of the clavioline, one of the very first synthesizers, in 1947? It is also as the drummer of the group Oui Oui that he made himself known, and even produced some of their clips.
Then he does the same for Daft Punk, Radiohead, Björk, the Chemical Brothers, the White Stripes or the Rolling Stones, with a clip that marks the birth of the Bullet Time effect that Matrix will then popularize. There was also the documentary Block Party and he will soon sign a biopic dedicated to Pharell Williams.
Entitled Atlantis, this musical feature film will return to the childhood of the author of Happy in Virginia Beach (Virginia) and it should be shot in July, provided that the writers’ strike does not delay the first clapperboard.
Successfully passed through Cannes with his hilarious Livre des solutions carried by Pierre Niney, Michel Gondry describes Atlantis, his first American project since 2012 and The We and the I, as “a big budget, but also a very personal film” nearIndiewire. And, one imagines, a feature film where his many staging ideas will bring the singer’s universe to the screen.
