Michelle Hunziker faces accusations of racism. On Instagram, she now apologized for her behavior on TV.

She made faces and changed her pronunciation: Michelle Hunziker (44, “An apparently perfect life”) is faced with accusations of racism after appearing on Italian television. The moderator apologized on Instagram now for their careless behavior.

“I apologize if I hurt someone”

The 44-year-old’s misstep happened on Monday (April 12) in the satirical program “Striscia la notizia” of the media company Mediaset. Hunziker and her co-moderator Gerry Scotti (64) slit their eyes with their fingers, alluding to people of Chinese origin, and turned R into L sounds. The Shitstorm on the appearance followed promptly – especially in the social networks.

In response, the former “Wetten, dass …?” Co-host shared a video in which she comments on the incident. “I taught my daughters to apologize to each other even if one of the others just accidentally hurt,” she begins in the clip. “So it’s only fair that I do that too. I am honestly sorry and I apologize if I hurt someone.” Hunziker is aware that people today are sensitive to their rights, which is why it was “naive” of her not to have this in the back of her mind.

Michelle Hunziker is “the furthest from being a racist”

In her statement, the 44-year-old also stressed that she “definitely wanted to be part” of an inclusive world, and that she was “furthest away from being a racist”. The fact that she nevertheless made the mistake of resorting to outdated stereotypes was attributed to the fact that these had crept into daily life unnoticed. “We got used to them,” explains Hunziker. “But now we are learning to change.” At the end of the video, the moderator asks her viewers not to spread hatred and emphasizes: “We all make mistakes.”
