Michelle Hunziker: She reports from the Corona crisis town of Bergamo

Since March 5, presenter Michelle Hunziker (43) and her family have been stuck in Bergamo, Italy. The location in Lombardy is particularly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. In a Skype interview with RTL presenter Frauke Ludowig (56), Hunziker now speaks about the current situation in the crisis location.

"Many people die alone in the house and then have no opportunity to be saved because there is no space in the hospitals," says the Swiss-Italian with a serious expression on her face. This situation came about because "unfortunately we all underestimated it from the start". She has many friends here who have lost their parents to the virus. Hunziker adds that her home town is now a ghost town.

"The whole family is together"

However, solidarity is very important in the village: within six days, an entire hospital was built with donations, reports Michelle Hunziker, who herself collected 1.2 million euros for her place of residence. For her personally, the quarantine has another advantage: "For us mums, the only positive side of this whole story is that the whole family is together." In order not to get on each other's nerves, she likes to meet up with daughter Aurora at certain times in the apartment – for an aperitif or a conversation on the terrace.
