Michikrater explains – That’s why motocross is now harder than in previous years

The Baierdorfer motocrosser Michael Schieber is currently leading the rankings in the Austrian national championship. If he maintains his consistency, the next title is possible. The current longer break is good for his body. The sport has become significantly more strenuous over the years.

“I didn’t notice it that way before, but I’m starting to notice it a little bit as I get older. I really feel my body in the days after races,” laughs motocrosser Michi scratch. But it’s not just the age of the 30-year-old that’s responsible for this. “The speed has increased again compared to before, the material is even more extensive and the routes are also becoming more and more extreme. Of course, that all plays into it.” So far, none of this has seemed to really bother the Baierdorfer: After three days of racing and six runs, krater is in the lead in the overall standings of the “MX Open” class and, with 132 points, is six ahead of his pursuers. “But the competition is stronger than for my last title in 2022. We are six drivers who can win the title this year.” The championship will not continue until June 23rd in Tyrol. That means a pretty long break. But the scratches make little difference. “I find the change compared to recent years more pleasant. It’s less stressful, it’s no longer a hassle. Our races are better divided and the drivers have significantly more time to regenerate.”No big breakThe multiple national champion will still not be putting his feet up in the coming weeks. Quite the opposite! Next week he will be at the start of a race in the Czech Republic, then in mid-June at a prestigious event in Schwanenstadt. The Styrian’s trump card so far has clearly been consistency. He was on the podium in five out of six races, and this one time he came fourth. At the weekend in Imbach he came second and third. And at every racing location he took a daily podium. “This year it is really important not to miss out and to take every point into the rankings. To be honest, I didn’t expect it to go so well.”
