Mick Schumacher is very “sad” about Sebastian Vettel’s career in Formula 1. Michael Schumacher’s son loses an important confidant in racing.
“I’m so sad that you’re leaving us,” writes Formula 1 driver Mick Schumacher, 23, shortly after Sebastian Vettel, 35, announced the end of his career on July 28, 2022 with an emotional video on Instagram. At the same time he is happy for the four-time world champion and the “new section [s]of a life”.
What probably only racing fans knew: Vettel is an important person for the son of Michael Schumacher, 53. This is especially clear now with his Instagram post, which Mick dedicates to him at the end of his professional sports career.

“You were and still are such an important person to me and I am grateful for our friendship.
Thank you for everything you have contributed to the sport we both love and I can’t wait for our final races together. Thank you, Seb – you are an inspiration,” Mick Schumacher continues. He also shares an eight-part series of pictures with shared racing moments in recent years.
Vettel was a true role model for Schumacher and probably helped him with words and deeds in his relatively young Formula 1 career. The 23-year-old has been driving for the Haas team in the premier class since 2021, and even as a reserve driver at Ferrari since the 2022 season, following in the direct footsteps of his famous father.
Sebastian Vettel now wants to focus on his family and spend more time with his “wonderful wife” and his three children in the future. Because “being a racing driver was never my only identity,” said the 35-year-old.
