After the Surface Laptop and the Surface Laptop Go, Is Microsoft preparing a Surface Laptop Gaming for us? That’s quite possible, at least if a leaked spec sheet unveiling the specs of a new ostensibly gaming-focused Surface product is to be believed.

Microsoft could announce very soon a brand new Surface product dedicated body and soul to gaming. In any case, this is what a leaked data sheet suggests. We discover the specifications of a Surface device equipped with components usually installed on board laptops dedicated to gamers. If this track is confirmed, it would be a first for Microsoft, which has so far focused on the marketing of devices mainly designed for office automation (Surface Laptop Go and Surface Go), productivity (Surface Laptop and Surface Pro) and creative uses (Surface Laptop Studio).

Interesting specs…

This new Surface Laptop Gaming would thus rely on a 16-inch PixelSense QHD (2,560 by 1,440 pixels) panel that can go up to 165 Hz. This screen would also be Dolby Vision certified. In terms of measurements, the device would not exceed 37.3 x 24.5 x 1.9 cm, which would make it a relatively compact gaming machine for its 16-inch format.

In this aluminum and magnesium chassis would be housed a Core i5-12500H processor (12 cores) or a Core i7-12700H (14 cores), coupled with 16 or 32 GB of RAM (LPDDR4x and not DDR5). This Alder Lake CPU would finally be supported by a dedicated RTX 3050 Ti (4 GB) or RTX 3070 Ti (8 GB) graphics card depending on the configuration chosen.

Interesting specifications therefore, but which are likely to be quickly exceeded: Intel like NVIDIA must launch new components for laptops at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.

Towards an announcement on September 22?

Anyway, this new product could count on 256 GB, 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB of SSD storage. Finally, we would find a battery offering up to 15 hours of autonomy (a figure that seems a bit overvalued to us in view of the onboard components), Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity, as well as 100% USB- C with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5mm jack, and a Surface Connect power port.

The device would finally be available in Platinum and Matte Black finishes and could be announced as early as September 22, during the Surface Event that Microsoft has already formalized. The question of price remains. Given the components listed above and the often high-end placement of Surface products, expect a steep addition, with a starting price that will probably be around 1,800 or 1,900 euros (with a configuration lower, the Surface Laptop Studio indeed starts at 1,699 euros).
