Microsoft is making some improvements to its Copilot tool designed to help you create useful prompts and edit your images. In a blog post published Wednesday, Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s director of consumer marketing, describes the new features.
The first item on the list is a visual change that affects Copilot in Windows, the Copilot website, and mobile apps. Previously, the screen showed a list of suggestions you could submit to test the AI. But frankly, these suggestions were boring.
Now suggested posts appear as a visually interesting thumbnail carousel. As you browse the carousel, you can see each suggestion and try the ones that appeal to you.

The ability to edit your images online
Next, and more useful for people using Copilot’s image generation, is the ability to edit your images inline. This feature works in Copilot on Windows and on the website, but not in mobile apps.
To try it out, ask Copilot to generate an image. I asked him to create a steampunk image of a robot wearing a top hat and a rabbit in a dress dancing near the Eiffel Tower.
Clicking on one of the four generated images displays it in a larger window. From there, click the ellipse icon at the top and select Edit in Designer.

Fine-tune the chosen image
You then access the Designer editing tool, which allows you to fine-tune your chosen image. You can crop the image, remove or blur the background, apply a filter, change the lighting and other elements, and even automatically adjust the overall look.
By right-clicking on the image, you can copy it, duplicate it, delete it, flip it, change its position and set it as Windows background.

“With Designer in Copilot, you can go beyond just creating images and personalize the generated images with inline editing directly in Copilot, keeping you in the flow of your chat,” said declared Mehdi in his message. “Whether you want to highlight an object to make it stand out with more vibrant colors, blur the background of your image to make your subject shine, or even reimagine your image with a different effect like pixel art, Copilot has you covered covers, and all this for free.”

And that’s not all. If you subscribe to Copilot Pro for €22 per month, you can resize and regenerate images between square and landscape formats without leaving the tool. It is also planned to integrate a GPT Designer into Copilot which, as Mehdi promises, will help you better visualize your ideas.
There are a variety of AI-driven image generators on the market, from standalone products to products integrated with services like ChatGPT and Google Bard. But there are often times when you want to be able to modify the final image beyond what the AI can do. Integrating editing tools directly into Copilot’s designer simplifies this process.
