The Redmond firm improves the interoperability of Azure Communication Services with Microsoft Teams. The objective: to deploy the service in all professional applications.
To encourage adoption of Teams and improve user experience, Microsoft is making its Azure Communication Services (ACS) for video conferencing application available to everyone. This general availability will allow the integration of the platform within third-party applications.
To do what ?
Concretely, app developers can now integrate Teams features directly into their apps. The possibilities relate to incoming and outgoing calls, text messages and meetings. Of course, ACS supports Teams identities and respects assigned Teams user policies.
Microsoft lists several interests in this support. An obvious one is the opportunity to bring Teams calling capabilities to devices not supported by the standard Teams client. Another benefit comes from this: the fact that you no longer have to systematically switch applications to collaborate with people inside and outside a company. This is particularly valid in certain sectors of activity which use specific applications with more functionalities than the standard Teams interface. These users will therefore be able to take advantage of Microsoft Teams services without having to go through the official application.
Two SDKs
ACS is used with the Graph API to manage chats, Teams meetings as well as server-side and client-side call bots, or the integration of information about people in the organization.
Microsoft provides two SDKs. The first manages Teams user access tokens. This is the Azure Communication Services Identity SDK. The second, the Azure Communication Services JavaScript Calling SDK, is used, as its name suggests, for IP voice calls, phone calls and Teams meetings.
