Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard for $70 billion

At the end of 2020, Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, and therefore all of its subsidiaries, including Bethesda, resulting in the exclusivity of certain productions, such as Starfield. One of the leaders of the video game industry did not stop there, since in the minutes that followed the first rumors, Microsoft has taken the lead in formalizing the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a very popular company.

Thus, a large number of new licenses join the Xbox pavilion, like Call of Duty, Overwatch, Diablo, World of Warcraft or StarCraft, to name a few, of course. The announcement is very surprising, but confirms Microsoft’s ambition to become one of the strongholds in the industry. It will of course be necessary to wait before knowing which licenses are likely to become Xbox exclusives, but there is no doubt that this is a very big blow from the studio chaired by Phil Spencer. The King studio (Candy Crush Sage and its derivatives) is also acquired.

Phil Spencer has also expressed himself on this subject on the official site, indicating at first that he was “ incredibly exciting to announce that Microsoft has agreed to acquire Activision Blizzard “. He also specifies that the takeover, although official, has not yet taken place and that until the operation is finalized (this may take several months), the two entities will continue to operate independently.

Regarding the future, Microsoft will offer as many Activision Blizzard games as possible in its Xbox Game Pass catalog, whether titles already released, or others to come. Offer which now has 25 million subscribers worldwide. If exclusives have not been addressed, there is no doubt that certain licenses will become exclusive to Microsoft, at least temporarily. Find out which ones…
