Microsoft’s Dev Box workstation service is now available to the general public after being offered in developer preview for nearly a year.
As a cloud-based desktop service, Microsoft Dev Box is designed to provide a scalable solution for development teams by providing them with preconfigured environments.
With cloud-based desktops, developers can access their development environment from anywhere, using any device with an internet connection. The platform also offers pre-configured settings with all the tools, libraries and frameworks developers need – and these settings can be tailored to specific projects.

The cloud-based environment is designed to allow programmers to focus on code, not infrastructure. Dev Box can integrate with popular development tools, such as Visual Studio, for seamless integration between multiple Microsoft products.
Along the same lines, Dev Box also integrates with Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Intune to provide enterprise-level management capabilities like security compliance and a controlled development environment.

The service is designed with three organizational roles:

The price will depend on the use and the size of the Dev Box, since it is available from 8 vCPU with 32 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, up to 32 vCPU with 128 GB of RAM and 2048 GB of storage.
