Version 125 of Microsoft Edge is now available for download. The browser has some interesting features, including a memory control option and new customization options.
After version 124 of Microsoft Edge more geared toward professionals, the Redmond firm returns this month with an update that could greatly appeal to individuals. Indeed, the American company has developed some very practical new features, starting with the integration of a parameter aimed at controlling the browser’s RAM consumption.
During the Build 2024 conference, Microsoft also took the opportunity to announce improved protection against data leaks and vulnerabilities, as well as a real-time video translation tool, already seen last November.
Edge 125: what’s new on the program?
First teased last month, the feature allowing users to limit the amount of RAM used by Edge is now available in the browser’s stable channel. Using a simple slider ranging from 1 GB to 16 GB, you can now better control RAM consumption and determine the RAM you want to allocate to the browser. Obviously, keep in mind that a low RAM allocation will affect Edge’s performance, although it may also allow you to free up memory for other games and applications.
For clarity, the color chosen when creating a “Workspace” in Edge is displayed not only on the title bar, but also on the border of the browser window. This aesthetic modification makes it easier to distinguish a “Workspace” from a standard window.
Another interesting new feature, all the tabs in your “Favorites” folder are now displayed in the Workspace. You can access them and consult them with your colleagues without having to switch between your different windows. Until now, the “Favorites” folder was not shared when opening a Workspace.
Microsoft is working on a real-time video translation tool
In addition to announcing the arrival of a new feature in Windows Explorer during the Build conference, the company led by Satya Nadella presented two new functions coming later in Microsoft Edge. The first concerns the integration of improved protection against leaks and vulnerabilities, while the second will offer users a way to overcome language barriers, as reported to us by Neowin.
Indeed, Edge will use artificial intelligence services to translate in real time videos published on different video sharing platforms, including YouTube and LinkedIn. You can see the feature in action in the video below:
Edge version 125 has recently been available for download. To install the update from your browser, simply go to the “About Microsoft Edge” section located in Settings.
