Images and videos land in Collections, a tool that Microsoft wants to make less compartmentalized by opening it up to sharing and incorporating suggestions.
Microsoft has upgraded the Collections tool in Microsoft Edge. Collections, accessible from the browser menu or via the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Y, collect previously added content – additions that are made from a simple right-click on a page.
Images, videos, but also suggestions
Now, Microsoft allows images and videos to be saved directly to Collections while browsing. The procedure is the same: right click on the element of a Web page, then add to a collection.
As a reminder, the Collections are synchronized between the connected devices, so you will find them up to date on each of them as long as you use Edge. According to Microsoft, they are intended to make it easier to collect, organize, and share the information you find on the web.
For this last aspect precisely, Microsoft plans, in the near future, to facilitate the sharing of Collections with other people, whether in a private or professional setting. The company does not provide further details on the subject for the moment.
In the same vein, the Redmond firm has begun to deploy a suggestion feature in connection with previous additions. Microsoft gives a sufficiently evocative example: Let’s imagine that you have just filled your collections with must-see places for the trip you plan to take to Paris this summer. In your Collections window, you’ll not only see your folders, but also a feed with content related to your searches, which will help you get inspired and discover other places “.
Creator tracking and targeted visual search
In addition to the aforementioned features, it is now possible to follow content creators on websites like YouTube, Bilibili, and TikTok. This feature is limited to a few sites to begin with and more will be added later.
Just click on “follow” in the address bar. The updated content is located in a tab present in the Collections window.
On a completely different note, Microsoft teams have also tweaked Bing’s visual search. Now, it is possible to target specific elements within an image: a table, an armchair, a light fixture, etc.
Again, the process is simple and intuitive: it consists of positioning the cursor on the object and then clicking on the visual search icon.
