Microsoft Edge: This is how you open websites in Internet Explorer mode

HOW DO I INSTALL, MANAGE AND DELETE…

You want to access an older website, but it doesn’t load properly? You can get around this problem with Microsoft Edge’s Internet Explorer mode.

Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11), which has long been available as an alternative browser in Windows 10, has been history since June 2021. Microsoft stopped developing the predecessor of Microsoft Edge for a long time. For compatibility reasons, IE 11 was allowed to continue as an optional browser.

The reason: Many web applications used by companies, especially in intranets, were developed specifically for proprietary features of Internet Explorer and no longer work with newer web browsers.

In the future, this task will be taken over by the Internet Explorer mode developed for Microsoft Edge, which enables the display of websites with a kind of emulation of the old browser. According to Microsoft, this will probably end in 2029.

Until then, you can only open websites and web applications in Internet Explorer mode that are displayed correctly with Internet Explorer. Before you can use emulation, also known as IE mode, you must first activate Internet Explorer mode in the settings. The following sections show how you do this.

After you have activated Internet Explorer mode, you can activate it for a currently loaded page as follows.

By the way, Microsoft Edge also has a screenshot tool on board. This allows you to save any website as an image file.
