Microsoft Edge will soon allow you to install updates before anyone else

On some versions of Microsoft Edge, an option to request updates more quickly suddenly appeared. At first glance, this seems similar to the feature of the same name already available in Windows 11. In other words, it should allow updates to be installed before the general public – but not before Insiders.

When it’s not busy holding you back by all means, Edge has the good idea to offer new features. As always, these are first tested with members of the Insider program, like Windows. The rest of the users, for their part, must wait until the update is available to the general public. But there may be a way to wait less.

This is what tipster Leopeva64, a specialist in Windows and Microsoft, reveals in a recent publication on X. He points out a brand new option that suddenly appeared in these settings. Her name ? “Get Microsoft Edge updates faster”. This name perhaps means something to you. Indeed, Windows 11 also offers a similar option within its settings.

Edge offers a way to wait less for its updates

The option in question is accompanied by a short description which says more about its usefulness: “Microsoft will automatically update when the browser is inactive. Your tabs will be restored automatically”. In other words, by activating this option – which is also unchecked by default – Edge will not wait for you to open the application to offer you to install the update, but will rather assume that you want it first. possible. The next time you open it, the browser will already be on its latest available version.

It is therefore not a question of obtaining the updates before the users who are on the different channels of the Insider program, which is quite logically impossible, but rather of wasting less time during deployments. For now, this option is only available within the Canary channel, which means that it should not take long for it to be available to all Internet users. She is located in Settings > Privacy, search and services.
