You would think that the announcement of the removal of WordPad from Windows would not provoke any reaction. We would have been wrong. Many users still use this archaic text editor.
Microsoft had announced its intention to no longer offer WordPad, the basic word processor included in Windows since 1995, in the future version of Windows. For many users, this does not really matter, as the program is obsolete. Some Internet users are angry after the Redmond firm and decided to make it known.

Let’s agree, it is still possible to use WordPad in Windows 11 and in future updates of this version of the OS, but it is very likely that the program will not be found in Windows 12. As Microsoft announced in a publication dated September 1, “WordPad is no longer updated updated and will be removed in a future version of Windows. We recommend Microsoft Word for rich text documents such as .doc and .rtf and Windows Notepad for plain text documents in .txt”.
Many users oppose the removal of WordPad in Windows
Many WordPad users have thus stepped up to the plate by posting glowing reviews of the ancient text editor in the Windows 11 Feedback Hub. One commented: “I use WordPad for RTF files because it loads faster than Word. I keep my notes in RTF format, because Notepad does not allow text layout. Please, add WordPad to Microsoft Store like you did for MS Paint when it was removed from Windows.”
Another user points out that WordPad is a lightweight program, and that the RTF files it creates are much lighter than an equivalent document on Word. He rightly states that “it’s the only integrated tool that allows you to put text and images in a single document.” Will Microsoft hear the lament of these somewhat nostalgic users?
