Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition, free content for players

Although back after a long absence with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, the MFS franchise is one of the oldest in video games. The proof, the game will celebrate its 40th anniversary with the 40th Anniversary Edition on November 11th. This edition is an improved version of the basic game, including more content (planes, airports) but also the possibility of piloting helicopters! Be careful, however, because this “edition” will be available free of charge for players who already have Microsoft Flight Simulator (on PC as on Xbox) via an update. We present here the content in detail of this future update.

Helicopters and new planes via the 40th Anniversary Edition

The 40th Anniversary Edition will add new content to Microsoft Flight Simulator starting with the arrival of helicopters. Piloting fans will therefore be able to find rotary wings after a noticeable absence when the game was released in 2020. In addition, gliders will also be present, allowing gliding on MFS.

In addition, some fairly legendary aircraft will be present: the Wright brothers’ Flyer, a Curtiss JN-4 Jenny, Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis, a Douglas DC-3, the Grumman G-21 Goose seaplane, another seaplane mythical with a Havilland DHC-2 Beaver and the huge Hughes H-4 Hercules. Another novelty: an extremely complete and detailed version of the Airbus A-310 will also be available.

In addition, new airports and heliports will be added, as well as 20 new missions from previous franchise installments.

In total, the added content will count:

  • 4 classic commercial airports
  • 10 airports dedicated to gliders
  • 12 new devices
  • 14 helipads
  • 20 new iconic missions

How do I get Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition?

In order to enjoy all this content, two options. The first, buy the 40th Anniversary Edition when it comes out in November. The second, if you already have MFS, all you have to do is download the update on November 11th.

This should be a game update and not additional content via the (free) store, as code changes must be present. However, the planes could be downloaded specifically from the store.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 will therefore soon offer free additional content via the 40th Anniversary Edition. For more information on the new flight simulator, find our up-to-date summary of all Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 news.
