Microsoft Flight Simulator: First Cities Update Available, New Aircraft and 40th Anniversary Edition Release Date

After 10 Worlds Updates, Microsoft Flight Simulator decided to offer something different last week for the gamescom 2022. He actually deployed a Cities Update #1, focusing more on urban areas than entire countries. It is logically German cities that have been improved, with new photogrammetry and more points of interest (including the Koelnmesse which hosted the show) for Hanover, Dortmund, Düsseldorf, Bonn and Cologne.

At the same time, Asobo Studio also further detailed the content of the edition 40th Anniversarythe new reference version that will be offered via an update to all on November 11, 2022, as just announced. It will bring 12 new devices, including theAirbus A310the seaplane Hughes H-4 Herculeshelicopters, and gliders, helipads, 20 classic missions from the series past and more.

To celebrate the return of gamescom, Microsoft Flight Simulator presents its first-ever City Update now available, with new photogrammetry for the German cities of Hannover, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Bonn and Cologne. You can even spot the Koelnmesse, location of the famous gamescom. This free update can be downloaded now from the game’s online store.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator team also took the opportunity to share new details about the game’s 40th anniversary edition. It will be available for free from November 11 for those who own the title or play it via Xbox Game Pass. . You will be able, for the first time since 2006, to fly helicopters and gliders, the most requested feature by our community. In addition to these devices, we will introduce you to another addition frequently requested by the community: an ultra-realistic airliner, the Airbus A-310, in which almost all the buttons will be functional.

We’re also celebrating aviation history with seven landmark aircraft, included in Microsoft Flight Simulator 40th Anniversary Edition. You will find the Wright Flyer from 1903, the Curtiss JN-4 Jenny from 1915, the Ryan NYP Spirit of St. Louis from 1927, the Douglas DC-3 from 1935, the magnificent Grumman G-21 Goose from 1937, the Havilland DHC- 2 Beaver from 1947 and the famous Hughes H-4 Hercules from 1947, the largest and largest wooden seaplane ever built, also known as the Spruce Goose.

We’ll also be adding four must-see airports, including Chicago’s Meigs Field, an airport where we often debuted in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series. This fascinating update is filled with history, and will celebrate both our community and the splendor of aviation!

To sum up, in the 40th anniversary edition, you will find:

  • 4 classic commercial airports;
  • 10 airports dedicated to gliders;
  • 12 new devices;
  • 14 helipads;
  • 20 classic missions, taken from the series’ past.
