(Reuters) – Microsoft Corp is in talks to invest $10 billion (about 9.3 billion euros) in OpenAI, the owner of conversational artificial intelligence ChatGPT, according to a Semafor report citing people close to it. folder.

The funding includes other investment companies and transaction documents have been sent to potential investors in recent weeks, with the aim of closing the funding round by the end of 2022, Semafor says.

Microsoft did not comment and OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

In early January, the Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI was in talks to divest part of its capital based on a valuation of around $29 billion.

According to Semafor, the funding terms call for Microsoft to get 75% of OpenAI’s profits until it recoups its initial investment, once the company figures out how to make ChatGPT profitable.

Microsoft has already invested $1 billion in 2019 in OpenAI, founded by billionaire Elon Musk and investor Sam Altman.
