It feels like Microsoft is forcing one change after another on us Windows 11 and Windows 10 users. While the company is promoting the Bing search using questionable methods, the next big bang is now coming. Your mail and calendar apps will be replaced by Outlook.

This change has been planned for a long time. As the technology website Windows Latest reports from its own experience, Microsoft has been forcing users to upgrade to Outlook since the beginning of March. A pop-up informs you about the change shortly beforehand, but it disappears far too quickly that users can hardly react. Only those with lightning-fast reflexes might be able to postpone the update until later using the right button in the window.

The pop-up states that you will be redirected to Outlook the next time you open your mail and calendar app. Before you know it, Windows will suddenly start downloading the Outlook web app from the Microsoft Store. After a few minutes the change is complete.

Unless you have a subscription to Microsoft 365, Outlook will display advertising. This makes Microsoft’s new client significantly less attractive for many than the previously ad-free mail and calendar apps. At least you still have a back door.

Undo Outlook Switch: Only a temporary solution

You can undo the change and switch back to the old mail and calendar version using a toggle switch at the top right of the new Outlook user interface. However, if you uninstall the Outlook application, Microsoft will ask you to switch again after a short while. So you can only escape the Outlook change temporarily.
