Alongside the Windows update welcoming the Copilot AI assistant, Microsoft announced a complete overhaul of OneDrive, its online storage and file management tool. On the program: a new design, advanced collaboration features with Teams and deep AI integration.

A new Fluent interface inspired by Windows 11

Microsoft has completely revised the OneDrive home page interface, with a Fluent design inspired by that of Windows 11 and its applications, more spaced out and minimalist. There we find the traditional column displaying recent documents as well as the “For you” banner, which in this new version will give you recommendations thanks to the Copilot AI.

Folder color will soon be customizable

OneDrive will not only show you the files and documents present in your Microsoft account, but also those shared via a Teams meeting or an Outlook email loop. Each of these documents will be associated with a contact so that you can quickly identify their origin. The app will now feature a “People” view so you can have at-a-glance access to files shared by your colleagues.

Even deeper integration with Windows

Windows 11 is now intended to be a system integrating the cloud and AI in a fluid and invisible way. This is also the philosophy of this new version of OneDrive which will display your favorite folders and documents across OneDrive, Windows and Office 365.

The web version of the application will feature an offline mode at the beginning of 2024, allowing you to work on documents and organize your files while waiting to find an internet connection. Still in an effort to integrate its other tools, OneDrive has changed the behavior of its “New” button, which will allow you to both create documents based on a list of Office templates and to upload documents. any file in your account. This feature should arrive in summer 2024 on the service.

This is only the beginning for OneDrive which will welcome many other features over the months of 2024. In particular, we expect an integration of Copilot similar to that already offered on Windows, with the possibility of summarizing certain documents and searching documents using queries written in natural language. The AI will help you organize all your files by recommending folders in which to save them.

Most of these changes are expected in 2024 on OneDrive.
