(CercleFinance.com) – Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, announced Sunday that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, the two departing founders of OpenAI, would join his teams to lead a new team dedicated to intelligence research artificial.
This announcement follows the surprise dismissal, Friday evening, of Sam Altman from his position as general manager of OpenAI, the Californian company behind the generative AI conversational robot ChatGPT.
Greg Brockman was kept in his position, but placed in theory under the responsibility of the new general manager of the company, Emmett Shear.
This ouster was decided by a majority by the OpenAI board of directors, made up of Ilya Sutskever, the current scientific director of the start-up, Adam D’Angelo, the boss of Quora, Tasha McCauley , a tech entrepreneur, and Helen Toner of the Georgetown Center for Security and Emerging Technology.
Analysts speak of a situation that is simply ‘catastrophic’ likely to enter, according to them, in the annals of the worst decisions ever taken in the history of Silicon Valley.
Professionals especially expect a reaction from Microsoft, which agreed at the beginning of the year a multi-year investment of several billion dollars in the company.
‘Nadella and Microsoft are not going to want to take the risk of losing Altman, whom they consider to be the little AI prodigy,’ assures Dan Ives, at Wedbush Securities.
‘The growing consensus, in Silicon Valley and on Wall Street, is that the days of OpenAI’s board of directors are numbered and that Altman will soon return with a strengthened Microsoft that can better control OpenAI’s strategic direction ‘, he concluded.
