REDMOND, Wash. (Reuters) – Microsoft said on Tuesday it was revamping its Bing online search engine and Edge internet browser to include artificial intelligence (AI), flagging one of its major steps intended to innovate in technology and in the search for information.

The computer giant, which invests billions of dollars in AI, thus enters into direct competition with Google, owned by Alphabet.

Microsoft has partnered with startup OpenAI with the goal of outpacing competitors and earning significant revenue by delivering innovative new tools to speed up content creation and automated tasks, among other things.

During a press briefing from Microsoft headquarters in Washington state, the group’s chief executive, Satya Nadella, said that “this technology will redesign almost all categories of software”.
