Microsoft will offer access to its artificial intelligence on more PCs under Windows 11but also under Windows 10 for all users still equipped with the old operating system.
Microsoft has made artificial intelligence its workhorse and intends to integrate its technology into all of its products. The Edge web browser, Microsoft Teams, and all Microsoft Office software already benefit from Microsoft Copilot, the AI-powered assistant running with ChatGPT-4.
The publisher also offers a version of Copilot integrated into Windows, which allows users to create text or access a lot of information in a natural way. The deployment has been rather slow in recent months, but Microsoft seems to want to accelerate the pace to offer its service to several hundred million users around the world.
Copilot enabled by default on Windows 11 PCs
For Windows 11 users, the global rollout begins these days and should continue for the next few weeks. If your machine is equipped with the latest Microsoft OS, you have absolutely nothing to do except wait for your machine to be affected by this update.
Microsoft nevertheless indicates that users who have upgraded their PCs to version 23H2 will see the Copilot assistant activated by default upon restart. A Copilot button will be integrated into the taskbar to be as accessible as possible.
For people using version 22H2, Copilot will be deactivated, and you will have to turn it on from the operating system settings.
Microsoft AI, available everywhere, all the time
For Windows 10 users, things are slightly different. Microsoft specifies that users of the Home and Pro versions will see Copilot appear in the coming weeks, with a deployment which will begin at the end of March 2024. For the Pro versions, the computers will not have to be administered by the specialized services of ‘a company.
Microsoft also adds that the deployment of Copilot on machines running Windows 11 and Windows 10 should be completed at the end of May 2024. It is also during this period that the publisher will offer its new Build conference, dedicated to developers and during which new artificial intelligence features will be presented.
Microsoft will also highlight Copilot on its new Surfaces, which will be announced in the coming weeks, with a key reserved for opening the virtual assistant. This new button should also arrive on PCs produced by third-party manufacturers very quickly.
