The Surface Laptop 5, Surface Pro 9 and Surface Studio 3 will be the stars of Microsoft’s presentation. A mini-desktop PC could also point the tip of his nose.
Microsoft has announced a Surface conference on October 12, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. (Paris time). The American giant will present many new products of its brand there, and we already have a fairly precise idea of what we can expect from the event.
Surface Laptop 5
Two models of Surface Laptop 5 should invite themselves to the party, and their technical data sheet is not much of a mystery. The first would be equipped with a 13.5-inch screen with a 3:2 ratio, with a definition of 2,256 x 1,504 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The second would benefit from a 15 inches and also 120 Hz, with a definition of 2,496 x 1,664 pixels (to obtain the same resolution as his friend).
They would ship an Intel CPU of 12e generation: Core i5-1245U or Core i7-1265U for consumers, Core i5-1235U or Core i7-1255U for businesses. No version with an AMD processor would be planned. There is also no dedicated graphics card, but an Intel Iris Xe Graphics GPU integrated into the chip. For both, the configurations will be available in 8, 16 or 32 GB of LPDDR4x RAM, and 256, 512 GB or 1 TB of SSD storage.
Wireless connectivity is provided by the Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 standards, while the connection consists of two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, a USB-A port, a 3.5 audio jack mm as well as a Surface Connect adapter.
Surface Pro 9
According to Zac Bowden, who has a lot of information about Microsoft’s future products, the Surface Pro X and Surface Pro lines will merge with this new generation. We will therefore have a Surface Pro 9 series available both in Intel x86 architecture and in ARM by Qualcomm. For the first option, the same processors as for the Surface Laptop 5 are expected. For the second, a 5G-compatible Snapdragon 8cx G3 SoC should be present.
The Wi-Fi models would be available in the same memory configurations as the Laptop 5s. For the 5G variants, 32GB RAM and 1TB storage would not be offered.
The 13-inch screen (3:2) of the hybrid device, a laptop-tablet, is said to have a beautiful display of 2,880 x 1,920 pixels and adaptive 120 Hz which can decrease down to 24 Hz , depending on the content. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a Surface Connect and a 3.5mm audio connector should be integrated.
Surface Studio 3
This time should be the right one, the Surface Studio will finally benefit from a hardware update. However, we should not expect a redesign of the design, but an improvement in the technical data sheet. Starting with the processor, an Intel Core i7 of 11e generation, coupled with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Only one version should be marketed, without the possibility of customization.
Three USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports would be added to the terminal, joining the two USB-A sockets of the last iteration. On the other hand, the SD card slot should disappear on this Surface Studio 3. The all-in-one PC would also be equipped with a better webcam and certified Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.
For the rest, new Surface Pen and Surface Keyboard should be unveiled by Microsoft. A device known as Project Volterra or Black Rock might also show up. It would be a mini-desktop PC, the first of the group, under Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3. This device would be designed by the Surface team, but should not be marketed within the Surface range.
According to Zac Bowden, it is very unlikely that Surface Laptop Studio 2, Surface Go 4, Surface Duo 3, Surface Neo, Surface Laptop SE 2 or
Surface Laptop Go 3 to be announced during the event.
