If you are a Mac M1 user and your business runs on Office, long-awaited news is finally here.

Ever since the M1 Macs (and other iterations) came out, software compatibility with Apple computers has been on the mend. Indeed, the end of Intel processors has forced developers to adapt to the brand’s in-house chips. Microsoft’s Office suite was no exception and quickly took this novelty into account for its applications, but not all of them!

Surprisingly long adaptation time

Since the health crisis, all the structures that had not yet done so had to equip themselves with company messaging services. Several options exist, but Teams has the merit of being included in the Office suite, often acclaimed by professionals. Whether the machines used run on Mac or PC, the suite is functional and the transition to ARM architecture (generated by Apple Silicon chips) did not seem to pose a problem for Microsoft.

However, and despite its approximately 270 million users, the stable version of native Teams for Mac M1 is only now coming out. This is a way for Microsoft to reaffirm its commitment to Apple users, and an opportunity for owners of a computer from the Apple brand to benefit from a serious boost on the software. Even if Rosetta 2 allowed the use of applications designed for Intel on the latest processors, the universal version will necessarily be more stable and powerful.

According to Microsoft, the deployment will be gradual and will take place over several months. To see if you’re eligible, you can always launch Teams on your machine and attempt a manual update. If nothing happens, you will certainly have to wait a few weeks!

Microsoft Teams

  • Call quality, audio and video
  • Messaging functions
  • Fairly generous free version

Microsoft Teams is the ideal collaborative work and video software for users and companies already immersed in the Microsoft and Office ecosystem. Its meeting and video functions are qualitative, but those refractory to the MS environment will not switch to Teams.
