Attractive price, easy-to-carry ultrabook design, some performance and webcam improvements: the Surface Laptop Go 2 does not reinvent anything, but displays a solid proposition.
Microsoft has formalized the release of the Surface Laptop Go 2, an entry-level laptop that follows the first model launched on the market in 2020.
A compact and lightweight ultrabook
The computer retains its 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen, which has a definition of 1,536 × 1,024 pixels in 3:2 format. The design of the laptop puts a new on an aluminum chassis and remains very close to that of the first generation.
Microsoft has placed a fingerprint reader on the power button to simplify authentication, but this is not available on the less expensive model. The Instant On function is also part of the program for a shortened start-up time, regardless of the configuration.
Among the improvements, the Intel Core i5 processor of 11e generation replaces the Intel CPU of 10e generation present on its predecessor. In these times of telecommuting and videoconferencing, the Redmond company has also upgraded the HD webcam on this Surface Laptop Go 2.
The connection consists of a USB-A port, a USB-C port and a 3.5 mm jack.
The 64 GB storage option disappears
Surface Laptop Go 2 is available in four configurations:
- The cheapest comes with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage space for 669 euros. Its price is higher than that of the first generation, but the amount of internal memory increases from 64 to 128 GB.
- The model with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of SSD is offered at 769 euros, cheaper than the 2020 model.
- Still with 8 GB of RAM, but with 256 GB of storage, this time it costs 869 euros, which is less expensive than its 2020 equivalent.
- A 16/256 GB version is available in the United States for $1,099, but is not announced in France at this time.
Microsoft’s affordable ultrabook comes in platinum, sage green, ice blue, and sand colors. The 4GB RAM model is platinum only. Pre-orders are open now, and the official release of the Surface Laptop Go 2 is scheduled for June 7, 2022.
