Microsoft wants to extend its Xbox Cloud Gaming empire to its Edge browser

To strengthen its grip on the video game market, Microsoft is betting on convergence. The American giant announced on Thursday that a number of Xbox Cloud Gaming features, its in-house cloud gaming platform, are under development. Starting with the addition of ever more game integrations in its Edge browser.

During its “What’s Next for Gaming 2022” conference, the American giant announced that it will “soon” add more integration content within its browser, which will have a new Games tab. This will act as a personalized homepage for the games, including news, game guides, live streams, game highlights, tournaments, and upcoming or recently released games.

This page will also allow users to quickly access their recent games and content. The browser will also be enriched with a Games menu to allow users to quickly access free games such as Microsoft Solitaire, Atari Asteroids, Microsoft Jewel and many others. As a reminder, Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service is built on Azure. Gaming is the main area where Microsoft has made inroads with consumers and is therefore a top priority for this primarily business-focused company.
